Islanders Trade Wisniewski To Canadiens

The Canadiens shored up their defense by acquiring James Wisniewski from the Islanders for a pair of draft picks. New York received Montreal's second-round selection in 2011 and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2012 in the trade Tuesday.

Kings Finally Deal For Sturm

The Kings have acquired seven-time 20-goal scorer forward Marco Sturm from the Bruins in exchange for future considerations, Kings President/GM Dean Lombardi announced today. The trade is subject to Sturm passing a physical. Sturm, 32, spent the last five seasons with the Bruins where he compiled 193 points, 156 penalty minutes and a plus-24 rating, while serving as a club alternate captain. Sturm has not played in a game this season, as he?s recovering from a lower-body injury. He is expected to return to the lineup this month. In 855 career NHL games with the Bruins and Sharks, Sturm has accumulated 466 points (234-232=466), 398 penalty minutes and a plus-66 rating. Sturm was originally drafted by San Jose in the first round (21st overall) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft (by then-Sharks GM Lombardi).

Lightning Send Simek To Bruins For Nelson

The Lightning acquired center Levi Nelson from the Bruins in exchange for left wing Juraj Simek, Vice President and GM Steve Yzerman announced today. Nelson will be assigned to the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL. Nelson has appeared in 14 games with the AHL?s Providence Bruins this season, recording four goals and seven points with a plus-3 rating. His four goals rank fourth among all Bruins skaters, while his 19 penalty minutes rank sixth. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Nelson has played in 118 career AHL games, all with Providence, notching 14 goals and 27 points. His best season came in 2009-10 when he registered AHL career-highs with eight goals, five assists and 13 points in 44 games. Prior to his first full professional season, Nelson excelled at the junior level during four seasons with the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL. Nelson was originally selected by the Bruins in the sixth round, 158th overall, at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Sources: Bruins Trade Sturm To LA For Draft Pick

The Bruins have traded forward Marco Sturm to the Kings, league sources said Thursday. Sturm, who is currently on long-term IR due to a knee injury suffered at the end of last season, has been skating lately and getting closer to returning to game action. Boston will get a conditional draft pick from the Kings in return, a source told ESPNBoston.com.
